Wayfinder helps patients and visitors find their way around hospitals using their phone camera. Hospitals can be difficult to navigate, especially when someone is anxious, late for an appointment or unfamiliar with the building. Wayfinder lets users choose a destination, point their camera at their surroundings, and receive directions through a minimap and camera-overlay arrows. Organisers upload a 3D scan and label destinations. The app compares camera images with reference views to estimate the user’s location and calculate a route, without requiring QR codes, added navigation hardware or an app installation. Our hackathon MVP demonstrates this workflow in the internal event space. It is a prototype for the hospital experience, where destinations could include reception, clinics, wards and diagnostic departments.
