Rare Disease Detective
Built at The Recursive Agents Hackathon · Oct 17, 2026 · San Francisco, CA
Rare Disease Detective is a human-in-the-loop team of AI agents that cross-checks hard medical cases and hands them back to the doctor with the evidence. Built for "Done Means Done": a lead agent (Nemotron Super on Crusoe) writes its own definition of done, spawns sub-agents at runtime (Nemotron Nano) that search the literature and request tests, and an independent verifier with clinician-written rules rejects unsupported claims. Every quote is checked word for word in code, hidden test results are released only when an agent asks for the right test, runs resume from checkpoints after failures, and the report is blocked until code-checked done criteria pass, otherwise it says "not done" or flags the clinician. Demo: a real published case (Hasegawa et al. 2021) of a guitarist misdiagnosed for ten years, plus synthetic cases written by our clinical lead, Wiki Milczynska, a London doctor. Considerations for physician review, never a diagnosis or advice to patients.
