Chatmate — Trust but Verify Chatmate is an independent verifier for AI-generated code, available as (1) a VS Code extension with a separate verification service and (2) a web browser version. It helps developers answer a critical question: does this change meet a fixed standard, or does it merely look convincing? ASI drafts tests from requirements and function signatures before seeing the implementation, reducing the risk of copying the implementer’s assumptions. A trusted operator reviews the expected results, then freezes and signs the test suite. Submitting agents can provide code, but cannot rewrite the tests or acceptance policy. The verifier evaluates supported code and returns ACCEPT or BLOCK. Failed tests, unsupported operations, and missing verification evidence block acceptance. Meta provides an additional advisory review, while Fetch.ai uAgents enables communication with a separately hosted verifier through an Agentverse gateway. Each verification records the source hash, frozen tests, policy, and outcomes as signed evidence that can be inspected and replayed. A protected CI integration can enforce the decision before merging. In the demo, an incorrect addition function passes only two of twelve tests and is blocked. The corrected function passes the same frozen suite. Instruction-bearing comments and an operating-system escape attempt are also blocked. The current MVP supports a bounded subset of Python integer functions. It demonstrates pre-merge verification; broader language support and deployment rollback remain future work.
