ReadBack — solving a real, physical, day-to-day pain

My teammate Finn brought this problem to the table because he'd lived next to it. He spent a couple of months working alongside an electrician, and the pain points were impossible to ignore. He watched him climb up and down the stairs again and again just to remember which part of the house each circuit breaker fed. He watched him try to "document" jobs by pointing his phone at a wall and reciting a list of materials into a shaky video, then standing in the shop later, barely able to hear his own voice over the noise, guessing at what he'd actually said. And he watched the worst part of all: the electrician staring at a circuit board two days later with no idea what was what. This is exactly the kind of everyday, workflow-level problem the Cursor track asks us to find, not a hypothetical, but a real person losing hours and confidence to a broken process.

We mapped that messy journey and rebuilt it around how the work actually happens: hands busy, on a ladder, in a loud environment, needing answers days later. Instead of shaky videos, the electrician snaps one photo of the board, and Gemini reads it into a clean, labelled diagram: no more guessing at a wall of identical switches. Instead of typing on-site, they just talk: Gradium powers hands-free voice so they can say "position four is the kitchen ring, thirty-two amp" and watch the tile update, with a review-before-apply step and spoken confirmation so nothing gets lost to background noise. Every note is pinned to the exact breaker it describes, so opening the job two days later shows a readable board instead of a mystery. Materials spoken in the field roll up into a single consolidated shopping list across jobs, killing the "guess at the shop" problem, and an Ask-AI search lets them query the whole job by voice or text. The entire interface, the dark, glanceable, ladder-friendly layout, was designed in Stitch, and the whole thing was built in Cursor from the very first commit to the last.

This is a direct answer to the track's challenge to improve the experience of solving a real problem through thoughtful design and richer interactivity. We didn't just digitise a clipboard, we replaced climbing stairs with a searchable diagram, replaced inaudible voice memos with structured voice capture that reads back what it heard, and replaced two-day-old confusion with a board that explains itself. Video (the board capture), voice (Gradium dictation and playback), and AI (Gemini) each remove a specific friction point Finn watched cause real frustration, and the craft of the UI makes it usable in the exact conditions electricians work in. From concept to interface to shipped app, ReadBack was designed and developed end-to-end in Cursor. ReadBack is a small, interactive tool that gives a tradesperson back their time, their memory, and their confidence.
